He didn't want to scare him

Storm woke to the sun shining through the leaves of the Fledgling den. Birds chirped occasionally, though not nearly as much as they did most mornings. He raised his head and looked around the mostly empty den The only other Fledglings in the den with him were Bone Ripple, and Tremble, the other Fledglings who had gone to the Meeting last night. Squirrel pushed his way into the den and his face lit up when he saw Storm awake. Squirrel tiptoed around the still-sleeping lynxes in their cuddle pile and came to lick Storm’s ear. “Good morning,” He purred quietly as he groomed Storm’s ears. “How was the meeting last night?” Storm sleepily told Squirrel all about the meeting, even mentioning when he made new friends from the different tribes. “Your new friends sound fun! BleedingJay sounds like he needs to calm down, though.” Storm nodded. He was feeling more alert as his brain woke up. The day birds were chirping softly, way softer than the morning birds. “What time is it?” Storm asked, sta...

The Cold Rain Beat Down In Sheets

The following is a sneak peek into a WIP I've been working on. Please enjoy! The cold rain beat down in sheets. I lifted my head to the sky as my lip wobbled. I was glad no one could see the tears through the rain, but now I couldn’t see the way home through the tears. Thankfully, my phone knew the way. I was walking through the streets of rural Spain, head hung as tears streamed down my face, the GPS speaking the directions so I could lose myself in my misery. My breath shook as I tried my hardest to make it look as if I was alright, just looking at the ground when I walked like it was normal behavior for me. The only problem was that everyone in this town already knew me too well to fall for that.  Señorita Cabanilla had told me I’m too proud for my own good. Luck was on my side, however, as the only people outside in this dreary weather were shopkeepers, and farmers, all of whom were far too busy to stop and look at me, much less make small talk, ask if I was alri...

“I need you to stay by my side unless otherwise dismissed.”

Storm’s paws dragged with exhaustion as he walked beside Ember to the meeting. He felt overworked from the day’s training, and the fact it was the first day meant it would only get more intense from here.  However, the closer he got to the Great Clearing where all the five tribes gathered under the watchful eye of the Dream Tribe when their influence was the greatest, the more energetic he became, excitement washing over him.  Storm wondered what the meeting was going to be like. What would be discussed? Who would all be there? He knew these meetings happened on the first full moon of every new season, and he knew that the leaders and a few important lynxes from all five tribes would be there otherwise, he didn’t know much else. The second he got close enough to see the distinct bodies of the lynxes down there already, he felt wide awake. He had to stop himself from bounding down there before Ember. He knew it would build bad rapport if he disobeyed her and showed her u...

"Get out, you big oaf!"

The following is a sneak peek from P; TBB!  Ember moved slower, more carefully through the underbrush as they made their way back to camp with the herbs. Her footfalls seemed way more calculated as they walked, and Storm tried to understand her patterns, but it seemed incredibly random to him.  Trying to follow her footsteps instead of finding how to do it himself caused Storm to lose his footing and step into a gopher hole. “Oh-!” His paw immediately started getting pushed out by the resident gopher as he yelled, “Get out! Get out, you big oaf! Just because you and your species rule this area doesn’t mean you get to rule my home!”  “I am so sorry, sir!” Storm scurried back a bit, falling on his bottom once his foot was dislodged. “I would sure hope you’re sorry! You trample around up there while I’m trying to sleep and then have the audacity to step in my home! I outta bite you!” “It was a misstep, sir, honest.” “Well, keep your missteps out of my home!” And with that, t...

Happy New Year!

My writing goals for this new year are as follows; 1) Update this blog every week. 2) Get the second chapter of P; TBB typed out, and hopefully be able to start on the 3rd chapter. 3) Flesh out the outline for P; TGP and solidify the plotline to lend itself to P; HWS. 4) Finish the outline and character outlines for TCOBC. 5) Read some books I've been putting off. What's everyone else's goals for this new year?
